Anthropic Restricts Claude From Reverse-Engineering and Cloning Video Games

·3 min read·TechPowerUp ↗

Anthropic has implemented restrictions preventing Claude from being used to reverse-engineer, clone, or recreate existing video games. The policy blocks users from using Claude to analyze game code, recreate game mechanics, or generate implementations of protected games, addressing concerns about intellectual property infringement.

This move represents one of the first major use-case restrictions implemented by a leading AI company at the model level. While users can still discuss games or write original game code, Claude will actively refuse requests that involve copying or reconstructing existing copyrighted titles.

What This Means for Your Business

Game studios and IP holders gain a measure of protection, but the precedent matters more broadly: expect other AI companies to follow with similar restrictions on specific use cases. For enterprises using Claude, understand that some requests will be declined on policy grounds—plan your AI integration strategy accordingly.
